Product description

This recall involves lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that are used with various HP and Compaq notebook computers. Recalled batteries will be in one of the following notebook computer models and must have one of the following battery bar code labels.

Notebook computers that could contain a recalled battery can be identified by the following model numbers:

    • dv6700

  • Compaq Presario
    • A900
    • C700
    • F700
    • V3000

The notebook model number can be found at the top of a service label, on the bottom of the computer.

The recalled batteries have one of the following bar code labels. Affected batteries must have one of the following number and letter combinations, where the symbol ^ in the bar code label represents any letter or number.

The bar code label can be found on the battery after it is removed from the notebook computer.

Hazard identified

The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Hewlett-Packard Co. has received one report of an overheated battery in Canada that ruptured, resulting in flames/fire and minor property damage, with reported injuries.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these batteries.

Number sold

Approximately 7,600 recalled batteries were sold at computer and electronics stores across Canada, and online at www.hp.com and www.hpshopping.com.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from August 2007 to March 2008.

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately remove the recalled battery from their notebook computer.

Consumers should contact HP to determine if their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement battery.

After removing the recalled battery, the AC adaptor can be used to power the notebook computer until a replacement battery arrives. Consumers should only use batteries obtained from HP or an authorized reseller.
