Affected products

This recall involves The Laundress brand fabric conditioners. A complete list of which is available at All recalled products have "The Laundress – New York" printed at the top of the label.

The recalled products were sold individually, in kits or as part of a bundle. All lot codes are being recalled.

This is an additional recall announcement by The Laundress. On December 1, 2022, The Laundress announced a recall for various laundry and household cleaning products, including most of the fabric conditioner products that are the subject of this recall.


The fabric conditioners can contain a chemical impurity, ethylene oxide, a carcinogen that can cause adverse health effects if there is significant and direct long-term exposure. 

As of March 28, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or the United States.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fabric conditioners and contact The Laundress for reimbursement.

Consumers who have previously requested a refund for these products in response to The Laundress’ December 2022 recall and reimbursement program should not submit a new request. Consumers who purchased the recalled products on or after January 2021 can request a refund using either a photo of the lot code with their initials and the date written in marker or a receipt, or if purchased through, consumers can submit their e-mail address for a refund. Consumers who purchased the recalled products before January 2021 should take a photo of the lot code with their initials and the date written in marker and contact The Laundress for a full refund of the purchase price, with receipt, or of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, without receipt.

After requesting a refund, consumers should dispose of the product by closing the bottle tightly and placing it in household trash. Do not empty the product prior to disposal.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

Number Sold

The company reported that approximately 13 000 units of the affected product were sold  in Canada and approximately 800 000 were sold in the United States.

Time Period Sold

The affected products were sold in Canada through November 2022.
