Vinyl covers for SunSetter Motorized Awnings

Product description

The recall involves all soft vinyl awning covers used with SunSetter Motorized, Motorized XL, and Oasis Freestanding Motorized Retractable Awnings supplied with bungee tie-downs.

Multiple Awnings distributed these vinyl protective covers directly to consumers or online between 2006 and 2016.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the United States has also published this recall.

Hazard identified

If a powered awning is inadvertently activated while the cover is secured with bungee tie-downs, the subsequent manual removal of the bungee tie-downs can cause the awning to open unexpectedly with enough force to strike a person standing in the awning's path (e.g., on a ladder), causing them to fall and suffer serious injury or death.

As of August 28, 2019, there have been no reported incidents in Canada. In the U.S., SunSetter has received 14 reports of incidents, including one report of a death and six reports of injuries.
