Issue

Issue:
On certain motorcycles, the exhaust pipe could overheat under certain riding conditions. If this happens, heat from the exhaust pipe could cause the oil cooler pipe to melt and create an oil leak.

Safety Risk:
Oil that leaks onto a hot exhaust system could create a fire risk. An oil leak near the rear tire could affect handling and control of the motorcycle. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to not to drive your motorcycle above 5,000 RPM in 1st gear until the recall repairs have been completed. You should contact a Honda Powersports dealer immediately if the motorcycle has an oil leak. When repair parts are available, Honda will send you a second letter. They will advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the oil cooler pipe and install a heat guard between the exhaust pipe and oil cooler pipe.
