2021 | VOLVO | XC90

Issue

Issue:
On one vehicle, an internal part in the brake system hydraulic control unit could fail during hard braking. If this happens, there would be a reduction in brake boost, as well as a loss of the antilock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) functions. This can cause an increase in brake pedal effort and increase the distance needed to stop the vehicle.

Safety Risk:
A sudden increase in brake pedal force, coupled with a loss of ABS braking and ESC function, could lead to an increase in stopping distance. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Volvo will notify the owner and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the brake system hydraulic control unit.
