Product description

This recall involves Rocky Mountain brand Instinct, Instinct BC and Pipeline alloy (aluminum) mountain bikes from 2018, 2019 and 2020. The affected bicycles in sizes small and medium have serial numbers beginning with PRK17, PRK18 or PRK19. Affected bicycles in size large have serial numbers beginning with PRK17, PRK18 or between PRK19-00001 and PRK19-01275. The serial number is engraved under the pedal housing. Models with carbon frames are not included in the recall. 

Hazard identified

The front triangle of the bicycle frame can crack, causing the steering tube to separate from the frame, posing a risk of injury and fall hazard to the user.

In Canada, as of June 25th, 2020 the company has received 12 reports of the bicycle frame cracking and no reports of injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 1466 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and approximately 1527 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from August 2017 to May 2020.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected bicycles and contact an authorized Rocky Mountain retailer for a free replacement frame.

For further instructions, consumers can contact Rocky Mountain Bicycles toll free at 1-877-744-1515 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, by email or on the company's website.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.
