PIEPS and Black Diamond Avalanche Transceivers and Beacons recalled due to risk of search function loss during emergencies
Immediately stop using the recalled transceiver or beacon, follow the directions on the Black Diamond website to perform a device check, and contact Black Diamond Equipment for a repair or replacement if the product is malfunctioning.
This recall involves certain PIEPS and Black Diamond avalanche transceivers and beacons that do not pass a Safety Check. All units are plastic with an LCD screen and measure approximately 5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide. The colours vary by model and have the manufacturer’s name (PIEPS) or the Black Diamond Logo printed on the front of the unit with the model name printed on the front or rear of the unit. The devices are worn by skiers/snowboarders/snowmobilers so they can be located if they are buried in an avalanche.
The following transceivers and beacons are included in the recall:
|PIEPS PRO BT
|PIEPS POWDER BT
|PIEPS DSP SPORT
|PIEPS DSP Pro
|PIEPS DSP ICE
|PIEPS MICRO BT Sensor
|PIEPS MICRO BT Race
|PIEPS MICRO BT Button
|Black Diamond Recon BT
|Black Diamond Guide BT
A defect in the electronics may prevent the unit from switching from SEND mode into SEARCH mode, resulting in no additional aid in the search and rescue process in the case of an avalanche.
