guzzie+Guss Safety Gates and Safety Gate Extensions

Product description

This recall involves guzzie+Guss safety gates (model number G+G301) (this gate was sold with an 8 cm extension) and the 20 cm gate extensions (model number G+G320).  The safety gates and extensions are white and made of metal.  The guzzie+Gus safety gates are pressure-mounted and open both inward and outward.

The logo guzzie+Guss is printed on the top release handle. The model number G+G301 is printed on a sticker on the lower rail.

Hazard identified

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that these safety gates do not meet the Canadian safety requirements for expansion gates.

The protective plastic end caps installed in the top rail section of the gate can detach from the product.  These end caps are small parts and therefore pose a choking hazard to young children.

In addition, the decorative and protecting coating contains barium in excess of the allowable limit.

Some forms of barium are safely used in medical and commercial applications, while other forms of barium can be toxic, causing adverse health effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and cramps as well as more severe symptoms. Gates for children coated with paint containing barium in excess of the allowable limit are strictly prohibited in Canada.

Neither Health Canada nor Peter John M. Distributions Inc. has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these safety gates in Canada.

Approximately 1500 units of the recalled safety gates and 700 units of the safety gate extensions were sold online and at various stores across Canada.
