Consumers should immediately disable or block children's access to the Otis or CemcoLift private residential elevators and contact Otis to arrange a free inspection by a technician.
Otis and CemcoLift private residential elevators purchased between 1992 and 2012
This recall involves Otis private residence elevators purchased before 2012 and CemcoLift private residence elevators purchased from 1999 to 2012. The elevators are used in consumers' homes.
Children can become entrapped in the space between the exterior landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door or gate, posing a risk of serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor.
As of February 2, 2021, the company has received no reports of injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 4 reports of injuries including crushed spine and abdomen, fractured hip, broken arm and feet, and bruising to the face and chest.
The company reported that approximately 200 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.

Consumers should immediately disable or block children's access to the Otis or CemcoLift private residential elevators and contact Otis to arrange a free inspection by a technician. If the hazard exists, Otis will manufacture and install a space guard at no cost to the consumer.
