Table and stool set # 340 manufactured by J.B. Poitras
This recall involves the table and stool set # 340 manufactured by J.B. Poitras. The set consists of four coloured stools in yellow, red, blue and green as well as a white table top with coloured legs in yellow, red, blue and green.
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that the yellow and red coatings applied to the stools and table legs contain lead in excess of the allowable limit established by the Surface Coatings Materials Regulations.
Lead is toxic if ingested, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Since lead builds up in the body, ongoing exposure to even very small amounts of lead can result in large amounts of lead being present in the body.
