Hazard identified
The books contain errors in certain electrical wiring diagrams and instructions that could lead consumers to incorrectly install or repair electrical wiring, posing an electrical shock or fire hazard.
Oxmoor House, Inc. has not received any reports of incidents, injuries, or property damage as related to the use of these books.
Number sold
Approximately 33 000 copies of the AmeriSpec Home Repair Handbook were provided to AmeriSpec Canada Inc., a home inspection company, for circulation to their customers across Canada.
Approximately 19 000 of the other recalled home improvement books were available for sale at home improvement stores and bookstores across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were distributed since each of their publication dates (see Product description).

What you should do
Consumers who used any of the technical diagrams or wiring instructions in the recalled books should immediately contact Oxmoor House.
Consumers will be asked to inform Oxmoor House of the pages and wiring instructions that were used so that a representative can advise the consumer whether or not their specific pages are affected by this recall.
Consumers with the recalled books should return the books to Oxmoor House for a refund.
It is recommended that any work done on an electrical installation by anyone other than a licensed electrician be inspected by the appropriate provincial electrical authority.
