Affected products

32 ton Black Diamond Log Splitter, model number BDBS32T 

Product description

This recall involves 32 ton Black Diamond log splitters with model number BDBS32T.  Affected log splitters are powered by a 250cc Briggs & Stratton engine with model number 15T2320011F8 and a serial number within the following ranges.

Affected engines have the following serial number ranges:

1912319442579  2012073736714

The first six digits are the year, month, day the engine was built (ie. 190408) with remaining numbers identifying the sequential order in which the engine was built.

The Black Diamond brand name is printed on the side rail of the log splitters. The Black Diamond model number # BDBS32T is located on a metal tag affixed to the main beam of the log splitter, on the opposite side of the engine, directly above the axel.

The engine model # can be found on the label on the valve cover. The engine serial # can be found on the label on the blower housing cover.

Hazard identified

An incorrect engine ignition coil and flywheel may cause a hard start and possible engine kickback, posing a potential injury hazard to the operator.

As of March 17, 2021 the company has received no reports of incidents or injury in Canada. In the United States, the company has received two reports of a wrist injury after a hard start with a kickback.
 

Number sold

The company indicated that 290 units were sold in Canada and 2000 were sold in the United States.  

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from April 2019 to January 2021.
