Product description
Sony VAIO TZ ultra-portable and lightweight notebook computers with the following model numbers are affected:
VGN-TZ160CB, VGN-TZ170CB, VGN-TZ37CNP,
VGN-TZ37CNB, VGN-TZ47CNB
The computers' screen size is about 28.2 cm measured diagonally.
Hazard identified
A short circuit may occur posing a remote burn hazard to the consumer.
Irregularly positioned wires near the computer's hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge can cause a short circuit and overheating.
Sony has received 69 reports of incidents for 438,000 units distributed worldwide. Sony received reports of 3 minor burns (1 in Canada) and 1 incident of property damage.
Health Canada has not received reports of injury to Canadians related to the use of these notebook computers.
Number sold
Approximately 3,600 units have been sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The computers were sold from May 2007 and August 2008 nationwide including at Sony retail stores and via www.sonystyle.ca.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the notebook computers unless otherwise instructed and contact Sony to determine if their notebook is affected.
Consumers in Canada are instructed to register affected units for a free inspection and possible repair.
