Affected products

This alert involves the following products that were sold on Amazon.ca:

  • FirstPower 4000mAh V6 Battery Replacement for Dyson V6 Series Vacuums

The defective products were found in 2 batches sold in Canada between January 2022 and April 2022: Batch number PO2111150260 and Batch number PO2111120226.

The battery manufacturer claims the product is compatible with Dyson V6 series vacuum cleaners SV04, DC58, DC59, DC61, DC62, DC72, DC74, Absolute Animal Motorhead Slim, SV03, SV04, SV05, SV06, SV07, SV09. The FirstPower battery packs are not a Dyson or Dyson authorized product. 

The Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) of this product is B085RSLXK1.

What you should do

Consumers who have these affected products should immediately stop using them and safely dispose of the items in such a way that they cannot be used again. Contact your municipality for instructions on how to safely transport and dispose of lithium-ion batteries.  Batteries are considered hazardous waste. Do not place them in household garbage.

Regularly check the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and take action to remove items of concern.

Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of these products or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

What is being done

The product has been removed from sale on the Amazon.ca website. Health Canada has contacted the foreign third-party seller and is advising consumers to immediately stop using the affected FirstPower 4000mAh V6 Battery Replacement. Health Canada reminds consumers to learn about the risks of buying consumer products online (see Related Links above).

The company reported that 1,731 units of the affected product were sold in Canada from January 2022 to April 2022.

As of November 24, 2023, the company has received 6 reports of incidents including 1 report of significant property damage due to fire in Canada.  There have been no reports of injury in Canada.

Dyson advises against the use of third-party replacement batteries in its products due to potential safety concerns.
