Product description
This recall involves certain models of 24", 30" and 36" electric radiant heat cooktops with touch controls and ceramic glass cooktop surfaces that are sold under the Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir brands. The affected products can be identified by the combination of the product model number and the serial number range. These numbers are located on the underside of the unit.

Hazard identified
The electric radiant heat cooktops may become energized without consumer interaction, posing a fire hazard.
As of August 9, 2019, the company has received 1 report of cabinet damage in Canada due to the cooktop being on for an extended period of time, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 110 reported incidents including 13 reports of items left on or near the cooktop surface being damaged by heat, 4 reports of items igniting with one report of damage to the backsplash and cabinets, and 2 reports of minor burn injuries.

Approximately 2,838 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 20,311 were sold in the United States.

The affected products were sold from March 2017 to August 2019.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately contact Whirlpool to arrange for a product remedy, including a free replacement. Unit should be turned off at the circuit breaker, unless it is necessary to use on an interim basis. Do not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop.
