Product description

This recall involves KitchenAid 1.7 L Electric Kettles with a metal body and a plastic handle sold in various colours.  The affected products can be identified by the combination of both the product model number and the product serial number.  These numbers are located on the label on the bottom of the kettle and also on the bottom of the base.

Hazard identified

The handle on the kettle can loosen and separate from the body causing hot contents to spill, posing a burn hazard.

As of January 23, 2018, the company has received 19 report of handle detachment in Canada, and 1 report of minor burn injuries. In the United States, the company has received 79 reports of handle detachment, and 3 reports of minor burn injuries.  In Mexico, the company has not received any reports of handle detachment, nor injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 47,350 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, 40,200 in the United States, and 1,635 in Mexico.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from September 2013 to February 2018 in Canada, from September 2013 to February 2018 in the United States, and from January 2016 to February 2018 in Mexico.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled kettles and contact Whirlpool to receive a free replacement.

For more information, consumers may contact Whirlpool by telephone toll-free at 1-800-874-0608 from 8:00am to 8:00pm EST Monday to Friday.  Consumers may also visit the company's website for instructions on how to register for a replacement kettle.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Consumers may view the release by Mexico's Consumer Protection Federal Agency (PROFECO) on the Agency's website (in Spanish only).

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
