Product description

This recall involves the following 4 types of jewellery intended for children. The backing on which the product was sold may have the letters "CTG" on it (for Canasia Toys and Gifts).

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that metallic pieces on the 4 products named contain lead in excess of the allowable limit. Lead is very toxic to children even at low exposure levels. Children can ingest harmful amounts of lead when they chew, suck or swallow jewellery items containing lead.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of the recalled products.

Number sold

Approximately 63,260 pieces in total of the recalled Iron Cross necklace, Time 4 Crafts necklace-making kits, and Kool Charmz necklaces were sold at dollar stores across Canada.

The number of Kool Charmz interchangeable charms that were sold is not known.

Time period sold

The recalled Iron Cross necklaces and the two recalled Kool Charmz products were sold from 2004 to March 2010.

The recalled necklace-making kits were sold from February 2007 to March 2010.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled necklaces and charms away from children and either return them to the point of purchase or dispose of them. Consumers are asked to contact their municipality for instructions on disposing items containing lead.
