Various Dastex brand blinds and shades recalled due to strangulation and choking hazards for children
Summary
Immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Dastex Inc. for a repair.
Affected products
This recall involves all Dastex brand shades and roller blinds with or without a headpiece equipped with a chain and cord shield system, with a metal base at the bottom, produced between October to December 2023. All products are available in a wide range of custom colours and sizes.
Issue
Health Canada has determined that the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations and pose a strangulation hazard. Young children may pull looped cords around their neck, or become entangled in the cords, causing a strangulation hazard and even death. In addition, the metal bases of the blinds can also release small parts that present a choking hazard to young children.
Children can become entangled in blinds cords, which can quickly lead to strangulation and even death. Health Canada recommends cordless window coverings. For more information on the hazard, see Blind Cord Safety.
As of January 5, 20243, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
