This recall involves various pieces of children's jewellery sold with the brand names "Pirates Collection", "Viva Moda", "Hot 2 Trot!" and "D and V". The brand name and UPC can be found on the product backing (if applicable). The backing may also have the word "Avaco" on it.

Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that some of the recalled jewellery listed above contains lead in excess of the allowable limit. The recall has been extended to include all of the items listed above due to very similar product characteristics.
Children can ingest harmful amounts of lead when they chew, suck, or swallow jewellery items containing lead.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of this jewellery.

The number of recalled jewellery pieces that were sold is not known. The product is suspected to have been sold largely at dollar stores.

The time period during which the recalled products were sold is not known. The recalled products were imported and distributed in Canada by Les Importations Avaco Ltée, which is no longer in business.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewellery away from children and dispose of it as per Municipal Hazardous Waste Guidelines. Consumers can contact their municipality for instructions on how to dispose of a product that contains lead.
