Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the glaze used on Vancouver decorative wall plates may contain lead and cadmium in excess of the allowable limits.
If these plates are used for food, and not as decorative plates, then consumers could be exposed to lead and cadmium.
Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
Cadmium is toxic, can build up in the body, and can cause stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhea. Over time, exposure to cadmium can result in kidney damage.
Neither Natural Color Productions nor Health Canada has received report of illness or injury to Canadians as related to the use of these plates.
For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit Health Canada's: Reduce your exposure to lead.
