Issue
Issue:
On a small number of school buses, a problem with the drive belt tensioner could cause the belt to move or come off the pulleys. As a result, the alternator, power steering, and water pump could stop working. If this happens, there could be loss of power to the wheels, a loss of power steering assist, and/or the engine could overheat.
Note: This recall only affects school buses built on a General Motors chassis equipped with a second air conditioning compressor.
Safety Risks:
A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A loss of power steering assist could cause a sudden increase in steering effort and also increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, an engine that overheats could create the risk of a fire.
Corrective Actions:
Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to replace the drive belt and tensioner.
