Issue

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the 12 V battery charging cable could be damaged by contact with the steering shaft and cause a short circuit. If this happens, a warning message may display on the instrument panel advising of low 12 V battery charge, and the vehicle could suddenly lose power to the wheels.
Note: This recall only affects rear-wheel drive models.

Safety Risk:
A short circuit could create the risk of fire. A sudden loss of power to the wheels may increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the 12 V battery charging cable. It will be repaired or replaced, as necessary. Volkswagen recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall work has been completed.
