Summary
Affected products
2021 | KME | PANTHER, 2022 | KME | PREDATOR, 2022 | KME | PANTHER
Issue
On a small number of fire trucks, there may be a defect in the rear axle drive pinion that could cause it to break. If this happens, the air brake line could be damaged and cause the parking brakes to apply suddenly. Note: This recall only affects fire trucks equipped with certain 180-series Meritor axles.
Safety risk
A parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a following driver does not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking, there could also be an increased risk of a crash.
Corrective actions
KME will notify owners by mail and will arrange for an inspection of the drive pinion. It will be replaced, if necessary.
