Issue
On certain motorcycles, the second gear in the transmission could break. If this happens, the transmission could jam and cause a sudden lock up of the rear wheel.
Safety risk
A rear wheel that locks suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective actions
Yamaha will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the transmission assembly with one that has an updated design and reprogram the electronic control unit (ECU).
