Issue

Issue:
On certain motorcycles, the engine could backfire when the quick shift function is used at high engine load. If this happens, the air suction valve(s) could become damaged. As a result, hot exhaust gas could blow back through a damaged air suction valve(s) and melt surrounding parts.

Safety Risk:
An exhaust leak could damage parts and create the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions:
Kawasaki will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to reprogram the engine control unit (ECU). Dealers will also replace the air suction valves and inspect surrounding parts. Damaged parts will be will be replaced as required.
