Issue

Issue:
Certain vans equipped with an integrated backup battery do not have a cover installed over the front passenger's seat base. As a result, if an object made of a conductive material is dropped into the opening, it could make contact with the battery terminals. This could result in a short circuit.

Safety Risk:
A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions:
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to install a cover over the front passenger's seat base. Consumers should not use a seat base with a battery as a storage compartment.
