Issue

Issue:
On certain vehicles equipped with a 6-cylinder gasoline engine, the wiring to the engine coolant pump could contact and become damaged by the engine fan. If this occurs, it could cause the engine coolant pump to stop working and the engine to overheat and stall. This could also cause the 48V on-board electrical system to deactivate while the engine is running. Under this condition the vehicle could be continued to be driven, however, the engine could not be restarted after it is switched off by the ECO start/stop function or the glide mode.

Safety Risk:
A loss of engine power and/or a loss of power to electrical systems could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the wiring to the coolant pump. Dealers will also re-route the wiring to prevent contact with the engine fan.
