Product description

This recall involves the Therma Scarf, which is a polyester/cotton scarf with pockets containing microwaveable heat packs. The heat packs are composed of flax seeds. The recalled products are black (model number 3806) or camel-coloured (model number 3801).

Hazard identified

The heat packs can overheat when heated in a microwave oven, posing a burn and fire hazard.

In Canada, Telebrands Corporation has received 2 reports of the heat pack overheating, one producing a fire and the other smoke, with no reported bodily injury.

In the United States, Telebrands Corporation has received 5 reports of the heat pack overheating.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these scarves.

Number sold

Approximately 1,500 were imported, but only 470 of the recalled scarves were sold to consumers in Canada, exclusively at Bed Bath and Beyond stores.

Approximately 98,500 of the recalled scarves were imported into the United States for sale.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from October 2009 to January 2010 in Canada and in the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.
