SRAM hydraulic bicycle brakes

Product description

The recalled bicycle brake models include SB Red Hydraulic Road Disc, SB Red Hydraulic Road Rim, SB 700 Hydraulic Road Disc and SB 700 Hydraulic Road Rim, used as either front or rear brakes.

The SB RED brake lever is labelled “RED” on the body of the lever assembly.  The SB 700 brake lever is labelled “S-Series” on the body of the lever assembly.  The serial numbers for the recalled brakes have the digit “3” as the fourth digit of the serial number.  The serial number can be found on the bottom of the brake caliper (rim or disc) and on the outside of the box containing the product.

The brakes were sold as aftermarket products and as original equipment on the following bicycle brands and models:

Hazard identified

The brake systems can fail, posing a crash and injury hazard.

SRAM has received 95 reports of brakes failing in the United States with two reports of minor injuries, one in the United States and another in Australia.

Neither Health Canada nor SRAM has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these brakes.

Number sold

212 of the recalled products were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled brakes were sold from July 2013 to October 2013 at specialty bicycle retailers.

What you should do

Consumers should stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled SRAM brake systems immediately and return the bicycles to the place of purchase or local SRAM dealer for a free replacement, including installation and a $200 (US) product voucher or cash.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
