Product description

This recall involves custom motorized window coverings sold with the Zeus Brand AA Lithium Batteries.  Products affected by this recall were sold under the brands Bali, Graber, and Signature Series.  Some were also sold under private label brands.  The custom window coverings were available in different styles like Horizontal, Cellular, Solar & Roller, Roman, Soft Roman, Pleated, Sheer & Layered, Wood, Woven Wood and Faux Wood blinds.

Hazard identified

The Zeus Brand AA Lithium Batteries sold with certain motorized window coverings can overheat, leak or discharge, posing a fire or burn hazard.

As of May 1, 2017, the company has received no reports of injuries or incidents in Canada.  In the United States, the company has received one report of a minor burn and four reports of battery leakage, discharge or overheating.

Number sold

Approximately 2,160 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 59,100 units were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected batteries were sold with custom window coverings from December 2015 to November 2016 at Budget Blinds, Home Depot, Lowes Canada and independent dealers nationwide.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately remove the batteries from the window coverings and contact Springs Window Fashion for a free battery replacement. Springs Window Fashions and dealers will be contacting consumers directly.

Consumers can contact Springs Window Fashions at (800) 221-6352 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) Monday through Friday, by email, or online and click on "Product Recall Information" for more information. 

Consumers who have Zeus brand batteries:

A. Please dispose of the batteries in accordance with municipal and provincial requirements for recalled lithium primary cell batteries. To find a collection site in your area, visit the call2recycle website and enter your postal code. You can also contact your local municipality to identify a local household hazardous waste collection site.

B. Consumers who do not have a local disposal option, please call (800) 221-6352 to have a return kit sent to you. The kit will come with instructions on how to properly prepare the batteries for return via pre-paid shipping. The kit can then be dropped off at a local UPS location.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
