Product description
This recall involves Sport Cap 2.0 polypropylene sport drinking cap by Klean Kanteen. The cap has an offset spout, an attachment loop, and the "Klean Kanteen" logo. These caps were sold individually as well as attached to stainless steel bottles.
Recalled Sport Cap 2.0 lids can be identified by a polished (shiny) finish on the top of the spout. Spouts with a dull (matte) finish are not included in this recall. See the image to compare the finishes on the spout.
Sport Caps that have a silver dot on the hang tag are not included in this recall. Also, Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottles and other caps are not included.
Hazard identified
The recalled cap's spout tip is brittle and can break or crack after being dropped, posing a choking or ingestion hazard to consumers.
Klean Kanteen has received 5 reports from consumers of the spout tip breaking or cracking after being dropped, with no injuries.
Neither Health Canada nor the US CPSC has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these sport caps.
Number sold
Approximately 102 000 of the recalled Sport Cap 2.0s were distributed in Canada.
In the United States, approximately 1.2 million were distributed.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from April 2009 to April 2010 at outdoor, grocery, and specialty stores in Canada and in the United States.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled caps and contact Klean Kanteen to receive a free replacement cap. Consumers will be sent an envelope for returning the recalled cap.
