Joint Recall with Mountain Sports Distribution, Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Affected products

Snowpulse Avalanche Airbag Cartridge

Product description

The Snowpulse cartridge for Inflation-system 1.0 used in all Snowpulse Avalanche Airbags from model year 2008 to model year 2010 has a faulty gauge and can leak over time. The cartridges are metal cylinders, approximately 5.1 centimetres (2 inches) in diameter and 20.3 to 30.5 centimetres (8 to 12 inches) in length with a pressure-level gauge and a fill nipple on the head. There are no identifiable dates or serial numbers on the affected cartridges. Any cartridges that look like the photo are affected by the recall.

Hazard identified

The leaking cartridge poses an injury hazard to consumers during use because there is an increased risk of burial, possibly resulting in death, if a leaking cartridge causes the airbag to fail to deploy in an accident.

Neither Mountain Sports Distribution nor Health Canada have received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the product.

Number sold

Approximately 2,631 of the recalled Snowpulse Avalanche Airbag Cartridges were sold in Canada.

Approximately 1,200 of the recalled Snowpulse Avalanche Airbag Cartridges were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled cylinders were sold from October 2008 to April 2011 in Canada and from September 2008 to April 2012 in the United States.

Place of origin

Made in Switzerland.
