Product description

This recall involves Shape-O Maraca toys by Tupperware. The maraca features a blue and red plastic globe attached to a long yellow plastic handle. The globe has cut-outs in the shape of stars, squares and other geometric figures, and various yellow plastic geometric shapes are located inside the globe.

Hazard identified

The maraca can break and release small parts, posing a choking hazard to young children. Also, the handle of the maraca poses a choking hazard to young children, because it can enter into and become lodged in the throat.

Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents to Canadians related to the use of these toys.

Number sold

Approximately 9,500 units of the recalled toys were sold in Canada. The recalled toys were sold through the Tupperware Holiday 2007 and Tupperware Spring 2008 catalogues.

Time period sold

The recalled toys were sold from September 2007 to April 2008.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and contact Tupperware to return the product.

Consumers can return the toy by completing the Maraca Return Form available at the firm's web site and sending the form and product back to the company at the address provided below. Consumers should indicate on the form whether they would prefer to receive a refund cheque in the amount of $29.00 or an e-gift certificate in the amount of $50.00.
