Affected products

Scandi Model Drop-side Cribs Made by LaJobi Inc.

Product description

This recall involves the Scandi model of drop-side cribs with model number 4130192; these cribs were manufactured by LaJobi Inc. The drop-side hardware for this crib has metal or plastic pegs that are recessed into either the drop-side, or the headboard and footboard.

Hazard identified

The crib's drop-side hardware can break or become damaged, causing the drop-side to detach. If the drop-side detaches, it could create a space between the side of the crib and the mattress. Infants and toddlers could roll into this space and become entrapped, which could lead to suffocation or strangulation, or they could fall out of the crib.

Health Canada and Isis Inc. have not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these cribs in Canada.

Parents and caregivers are reminded to check their baby's drop-side crib regularly. They are instructed not to use it if any parts are loose or missing, or if there are any signs of damage to the drop-side hardware. Only parts obtained from the original manufacturer must be used for repairs. Do not repair broken parts with tape, wire, or rope. Contact the manufacturer if replacement parts or additional instructions are needed.

For more information on crib requirements in Canada as well as the safe use of cribs, see Health Canada's Crib Safety Booklet. For more information on safe sleeping practices for infants, see Health Canada's Consumer Information Bulletin - Safe Sleep Practices for Infants.

What you should do

Consumers should carefully examine the drop-side hardware for any signs of damage. If consumers determine that the drop-side hardware is broken, loose, missing, or deformed, or if there are any other reasons for concern, they should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and find an alternative safe sleeping environment for their baby.

Consumers should not return the crib. Isis Inc. is offering a free retrofit kit to affected consumers. However, due to the unavailability of a parameters involved in the testing, Health Canada remains unable to assess the retrofit kit.

For more information, consumers may contact Isis Inc. toll-free at 1-800-667-4111.
