Product description
This recall involves refillable Ronson® Wind Resistant Indoor/Outdoor Multi-Purpose utility lighters imported by Zippo Manufacturing Company.
The recalled lighters have a chrome or black barrel attached to a red, white, or black plastic handle. The back of the packaging contains the model number 72212 and the UPC 059136722126. All lighters have the word "Ronson" imprinted on the left side of the body of the lighter and were available only in a clamshell package with a blue backer card.
This recall does not include any other models of Ronson® brand lighters.
Hazard identified
Testing by Health Canada of these utility lighters have revealed that they may pose a burn risk to users because they do not meet the performance testing requirements outlined in the Lighters Regulations.
These lighters can pose the following problems:
- the lighters may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released
- the lighters may leak.
Neither Zippo Manufacturing Company, nor Health Canada has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these lighters.

Number sold
Approximately 12,720 of the recalled utility lighters were sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from July 2010 to May 2012.
