Product description
This recall involves the following roman shades sold by Walmart Canada under the brand name Select Edition/Mainstays:
- Blackout Roman Shade
- Faux Suede Roman Shade
- Bamboo Roman Shade
- Cotton Twill Roman Shade
- Mongolian Roman Shade
Roman shades that have a child safety breakaway device are not included in this recall.
Hazard identified
Strangulations can occur when a child places their neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind, or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around their neck.
Neither Walmart Canada nor Health Canada have received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these roman shades.

Approximately 383,178 units of the recalled roman shades were sold in Walmart stores across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled product was sold from 2004 to December 2009.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit.
The repair kit involves removing the cords and attaching devices to manually raise and lower the shade. Consumers may also remove the cords without attaching the devices. However, the product will be inoperable and remain in the lowered position.
