Product description
This recall involves all styles and sizes of Roman shades sold under the Ethan Allen brand name. These custom, made-to-order shades were sold in a variety of colours, fabrics, and sizes. The shades have no labels or markings making reference to the Ethan Allen brand.
Hazard identified
Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shade, or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. Also, strangulation can occur when a child's neck become entangled on the free-standing loop.
Health Canada has not received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these roman shades.

Number sold
Approximately 163,000 units of the recalled roman shades were sold in Canada and the United States.
Time period sold
The recalled roman shades were sold from Ethan Allen Design Centers since at least 1999 through December 2009.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and contact the Window Covering Safety Council or Ethan Allen Global Inc. for a free repair kit.
The repair kit involves removing the cords and attaching devices to manually raise and lower the shade. Consumers may also remove the cords without attaching the devices. However, the product will be inoperable and remain in the lowered position.
