Product description
This recall involves all styles and sizes of roman shades and roll-up blinds sold by JCPenney.
Hazard identified
Strangulation can occur when a child places their neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric of the blind, or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around their neck.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
In the United States, there have been two incidents in which the same 2-year-old girl became entangled in the cord on the back of one of the recalled roman shades.

Number sold
The number of recalled product sold to Canadians through the JCPenney catalogue and website is not known.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold until October 2009. Products of this design have been available for many years and this recall affects all roman shades and roll-up blinds sold by JCPenney, regardless of the year purchased.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and roll-up blinds, and contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit.
The repair kit involves removing the cords and attaching devices to manually raise and lower the shade. Consumers may also remove the cords without attaching the devices. However, the product will be inoperable and remain in the lowered position.
