Product description
This recall involves Ritchie Immersion Heaters that are designed to be immersed in a cattle trough filled with water to prevent the water from freezing. The affected heaters can be identified by the following model numbers: Model #17863 (250 w/120 v) and Model #17940 (250 w/240 v). The model number is printed on one side of the heating element along with the word "SWI", and a sticker reading "Ritchie Specialty Products" is found on the other side.
Hazard identified
The outer cover of the immersion heater can crack and expose the heating element to water, posing a shock hazard to consumers.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this heater.
Number sold
Approximately 800 units of the recalled products were sold at various retailers in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from February 2007 to March 2009.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Mexico.
