Product description
This recall involves certain Niles Remote Control Systems. The remote controls are wireless devices that are designed to operate audio, video and home theatre systems from a single remote control. The Niles logo is featured in the top-left corner of the unit. The remote control systems can be identified by the following models:
iRemoteTS: measures approximately 13.7 centimetres (5.4 inches) by 15.7 centimetres (6.2 inches) by 3.2 centimetres (1.25 inches).
"iRemote TS" and the Niles logo are printed on the front of the unit.
iC2: measures approximately 13.2 centimetres (5.2 inches) by 7.6 centimetres (3 inches) by 19.3 (7.5 inches).
"iC2" and the Niles logo are printed on the front of the unit.
Hazard identified
If the battery falls from the remote control during handling, it can rupture and smoke or ignite, posing a fire hazard.
In the United States, Niles Audio Corp. has received four reports of batteries falling from the remote control system during handling; one of the batteries ignited and singed a carpet and the other three smoked.
In Canada, Niles Audio Corp. has received one report of an incident, including some property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these remote control systems.
Number sold
Approximately 47 of the affected remote control systems were sold at authorized dealers and distributors of audio/video equipment across Canada.
Time period sold
The affected remote control systems were sold from January 2008 to September 2010.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Niles Audio to schedule an in-home repair to receive a replacement battery and a more secure battery cover. Consumers should not attempt to open the battery compartment.
