Product description
This recall involves three Modero® ViewPoint® rechargeable battery models of the AMX 5000 series wireless touch panels. These touch panels can be used as remote controls for residential or commercial audio/visual systems. The touch panel's dimensions are approximately 8 x 4 x 1 centimeters (4-3/4' x 7-9/16' x 13/16').
- Model MVP-5100 is available in black and comes with a 5.2" wide screen LCD colour display of the Modero® ViewPoint® IR Touch Panel.
- Model MVP-5150 is available in black and comes with a 5.2" wide screen LCD colour display of the Modero® ViewPoint® Wi-Fi Touch Panel.
- Model MVP-5200i is available in black and white and comes with a 5.2" wide screen LCD colour display of the Modero® ViewPoint® Touch Panel with Intercom.
The model number can be found on a label at the back of the unit.
Hazard identified
Faulty batteries risk swelling and overheating. Extreme cases can cause the panel to deform slightly and hinder proper functionality. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Neither AMX Canada nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these batteries.
Number sold
Approximately 150 were sold by AMX Authorized Dealers across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from May 2008 to January 2010.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Mexico and in United States.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the rechargeable batteries and contact the authorized dealer from whom they originally purchased the MVP series panel who can service the batteries on site or in-house.
