Product description
This recall involves two models of electrically heated ski gloves. The recalled winter gloves are black and have a battery-powered heating element. The gloves included in the recall are style number 77000 (men's) in sizes S, M, L, XL, and style number 77010 (women's) in sizes S, M, L. The product name is printed on the inside cuff of the left glove.
Hazard identified
The electrically heated ski gloves can short circuit and overheat to the point where they can melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
The manufacturer, Outdoor Research Inc., has received five reports of the gloves overheating, including one consumer who suffered burns to her hand.
The Canadian retailers, Mountain Equipment Co-op and Canadian Mountain Holiday, have received one report of injury that involved a hand burn for which no medical attention was required.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these recalled gloves.
Number sold
Approximately 600 of the recalled heated gloves were sold at Mountain Equipment Co-op and Canadian Mountain Holiday stores.
Time period sold
The recalled heated gloves were sold from September 2008 to January 2009.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China and Sri Lanka.
