Product description

This recall involves all Thane Orbitrek Elite and Orbitrek Elite Magnetic elliptical exercise gliders. These gliders have a blue and gray plastic cover and the model name Orbitrek Elite or Orbitrek Elite Magnetic can be found on the side of the machine.

The recalled machines have serial numbers in the following ranges:

  • Orbitrek Elite: 0704346 to 0905023003
  • Orbitrek Elite Magnetic: 0701825 to 08053931

No other models of Orbitrek elliptical gliders are included in this recall.

Hazard identified

The written assembly instructions in the owner's manual incorrectly describe the proper placement of a spring washer and are inconsistent with the figure identifying its proper location. An incorrectly installed spring washer could put undue stress on bolts, causing them to loosen and posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Health Canada has not received reports of injuries or incidents to Canadians related to the use of these exercise machines.

Number sold

Approximately 14,602 units of the recalled gliders have been sold through television infomercials, on the Internet, and at various retailers across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold between May 2007 and May 2009.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled gliders and contact Thane Direct to receive revised assembly instructions. Consumers will then be able to inspect their units to ensure that the spring washer is in the correct location.

Thane is contacting consumers who purchased their Orbitrek Elites either directly from Thane or via an infomercial, to provide them with revised assembly instructions.
