Product description
This recall involves Odie's Solvent-Free Super Penetrating Oil and Odie's Safer Solvent. Odie's Solvent-Free Super Penetrating Oil is an amber-coloured wood finishing oil that is sold in a 946 mL glass jar with UPC number 851366006195 on the label. Odie's Safer Solvent is a clear solvent used for cleaning and degreasing that is sold in a 946 mL jar with UPC number 851366006133 on the label.
Hazard identified
The recalled products do not have proper consumer chemical hazard packaging and labelling required by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
Odie's Solvent-Free Super Penetrating Oil lacks the spontaneously combustible symbol and warnings required for flammable consumer chemicals. Products identified as spontaneously combustible may cause rags and cloths used with the product to burn on their own.
Odie's Safer Solvent contains a level of D-limonene that can pose a danger to human health, especially to children, if aspiration occurs. D-limonene is extracted from citrus fruit (such as orange peel), and is commonly used as an ingredient in cleaners and other household chemical products to provide a citrus smell. Aspiration occurs when the product is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. This coughing/vomiting causes small particles of the product to travel into the lungs and may result in severe health effects including pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia or death.
As of July 4, 2018, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Approximately 108 units of Odie's Solvent-Free Super Penetrating Oil and 48 units of Odie's Safer Solvent were sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from May 6, 2018 to June 15, 2018.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the products and dispose of them according to their municipal waste requirements. If rags were used with the Odie's Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil, consumers should place rags in water or lay them flat to dry before disposal.
