Reason
In rare cases the O-ring on the in-line connector may be missing on the end of the patient line. The O-ring is a black circular ring that is clearly visible when the two pieces of the in-line connector are separated. If this O-ring is missing, then air can pass into the patient tubing causing a system air leak. The chest drain system will no longer be a closed system as required and you will not obtain appropriate function of the drain in evacuating air, blood or fluid.
