Product description
This recall involves the Nikon Model EN-EL 15 rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack provided with Nikon D800 and D7000 digital-SLR cameras.
The battery pack's model number "EN-EL 15" and "7.0V 1900mAH 14Wh" are printed on the back of the battery pack. Only EN-EL 15 battery packs beginning with 201 in which the ninth digit of the 14 digit lot number is an "E" or an "F" are being recalled for replacement (i.e., 201XXXXXEXXXXX and 201XXXXXFXXXXX).
Hazard identified
The battery packs can short circuit, causing them to overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
Nikon has received seven reports of incidents outside of Canada and the United States with the recalled battery packs overheating. No injuries have been reported.
Neither Nikon Canada Inc., nor Health Canada have received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these battery packs.
Number sold
Approximately 1,068 units of the affected batteries were sold in Canada, and approximately 5,100 units of the affected batteries were sold in the United States at camera, office supply and mass merchandise stores, in catalogs and various websites.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from February 2012 to March 2012 in Canada and from March 2012 to April 2012 in the United States.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Japan/China.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected Nikon Model EN-EL 15 rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, remove it from the battery compartment of the camera and contact Nikon for a free replacement battery pack.
