Mustang Rescue StickTM
Product description
This recall involves certain Mustang Survival Rescue StickTM. The Rescue Stick is a throwable rescue inflatable that consists of a yellow protective cover, inflatable floatation cell and black foam handle. The unit measures 35.5 centimetres (14 inches) in length and the name “Mustang Survival Rescue StickTM” is printed in black letters on the front of the yellow cover.
Mustang Survival is recalling the Mustang Survival Rescue StickTM product identified by model numbers MRD100 and MRD101. The product was manufactured in China prior to April 2014. The affected products can be easily identified by visual inspection as follows:
Step 1: Product DOES NOT have a yellow dot on the end of the foam handle; and
Step 2: Product has a “Made in China” label on the inside of the protective cover.
Products with labels stating “Made in Canada” or “Made in United States” are not affected by this recall notice.
Hazard identified
In some instances, the Rescue Stick may not achieve the design buoyancy when automatic inflation is triggered by contact with water.
While this issue impacts the product's ability to automatically fully inflate, the product is equipped with a redundant system for oral inflation which allows the user to achieve sufficient buoyancy.
Neither Health Canada nor Mustang Survival has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of the product.
Number sold
Approximately 913 units of the recalled products were sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from January 2008 to April 2014.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

What you should do
Consumers should inspect their product to determine if it is included in this recall. If the product is included in this recall the consumer should stop using the Rescue Stick immediately. Consumers can contact Mustang Survival for a replacement handle assembly that contains a new carbon dioxide cylinder and further instructions.
