Product description
This recall involves the SureFit blade spindle shaft and assembly which are intended for use as replacements for parts that wear out or need replaced on lawn and garden equipment. The blade spindle shafts and assemblies are the parts that hold the blade onto the deck of a riding lawn tractor. There is a spindle for each blade under the deck.
The blade spindle shaft can be sold separately or as a component of the blade spindle assembly.

Hazard identified
Testing by the company has revealed the blade shaft can fail when the blade impacts something hard like a strong tree root, protruding rock, a sprinkler head or a rigid object. When the shaft fails, it breaks and the blade detaches, posing an injury hazard.
As of December 20, 2017, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries.
Number sold
Approximately 31 units of the spindle and 43 units of the assemblies were sold in Canada. Approximately 113 spindles and 785 units of the assemblies were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The affected products were sold from January 2017 to October 2017 in Canada and the United States.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop operating their lawn tractor, and return the part to the place of purchase. MTD Products dealers will replace the affected product at no charge to the consumer.
