Mobile Power Pack by Tumi
Product description
This recall involves a mobile power pack by Tumi. The mobile device receives an AC charge in a compact battery pack and can give DC charges to small electronic devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, and PDAs (personal digital assistants). The recalled power packs are black and silver, rectangular in shape, and have a small circular control panel on the front. The name "Tumi" is engraved on a silver button on the front as well. Recalled devices have style number 14362 printed on the packaging in which the product was sold.
Hazard identified
The lithium-ion cells used in the recalled mobile power packs may overcharge if they are contaminated and have not been charged, posing a risk of fire. If the power pack has already been charged and is functioning properly, then there is no risk of fire. Overcharging only happens the first time the unit is charged.
In Canada, Tumi has received 1 report of a small fire in an electrical socket, resulting in damage to the wall. Tumi has also received 2 reports in the United States of small fires during the initial charge of the power pack, with no reported injuries.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
