Product description
This recall involves silver metal mood rings with colour-changing stones. The affected rings are either round or flower shaped. The mood rings were sold in vending machines across Canada.
Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and testing program revealed that the rings contain cadmium in excess of guidance levels proposed recently by Health Canada.
Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is prohibited to manufacture, import, advertise or sell any consumer product that is a danger to human health and safety, such as the presence of cadmium in jewellery.
Cadmium is a heavy metal which is known to be more toxic than lead. Both are known to be very toxic metals, especially for children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead and cadmium, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths.
Neither Health Canada nor Actionmatic Ltd. has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of this product.

Number sold
Approximately 3,120 of the recalled mood rings were sold in Canada in vending machines located in department stores and shopping malls.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from December 2009 to November 2012.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewellery away from children and dispose of the item in their regular household waste.
